1 The Milton Timber Gallery on the New South Wales south coast is a partnership between four local furniture designers and a wood-turner. All five partners have brought their own styles and designs to the gallery, creating a wide variety of wood pieces and furniture.
2 They use Australian native timbers such as cedar, bush mahogany, spotted gum, stringy bark, redgum and brushbox. By exhibiting the magnificent grains and colours of these timbers in their handcrafted work, they hope to encourage a policy of sustained management and ongoing regeneration of these timbers.
3 The gallery does its own milling and drying. The timber is cut to set sizes and then stacked in the sheds to air-dry. It is then put through the kilns to produce a stable, reliable product.
4 The Milton Gallery is a great place to find alternative pieces. The items on display at the gallery include dining tables and chairs in rustic and finished styles, coffee tables and outdoor settings. There are also smaller items, such as timber bowls, carved pens and picture frames. You can also buy unworked kiln-dried wood slabs.
