It isn't very often that Shirl lets one of the Our House girls into his workshop, but this is a special occasion. Tara needs a workbench so that she doesn't ruin her dining room table while working on craft projects. And Shirl's going to lend a hand.

STEP BY STEP
Cut all pieces to size as per list.
Mark out and cut the rebate joint at the top of each leg (see fig. 1).
Mitre each end of the upper frame and assemble with glue and screws.
Lay the upper frame on the bench and attach the legs with coach bolts. Make sure you drill a pilot hole equal to the diameter of the core of the screw to ensure secure fixing.
Attach any extra bracing pieces required to support the chosen storage containers and fix in place.
Cut and assemble the lower frame pieces. This frame will be positioned inside the legs and flush with the bottom of the legs.
Cut and attach the lower shelf to the frame.
Attach the ply-covered frame to the legs using coach bolts.
Use the 35mm coach screws to attach the castors centrally to the base of the legs. Remember to keep the two lockable ones to the same side.
Position the bench in its upright position and screw the plywood top centrally located over the upper frame.
Cut a 45°C angle 30mm x 30mm at each corner of the top.
Round over all edges of the top using a router, with routing over bit fitted.
Fit the vice to a positions that suits your requirements.
Remove sharp corners and rough edges by lightly sanding.
