| Rustic step shelf |
| Recycled timber can add a little warmth and a sense of history to any room. Shirl has found a piece of oregon that's just perfect for a rustic set of shelves. |

The unit can be used as a room divider, to stack towels in the bathroom, or simply as storage.
STEP BY STEP
1 Cut the shelves into three lengths 900mm, 600mm and 300mm (our shelves are 45mm thick). Plane the edges to clean the recycled wood and get rid of any splinters.
2 Mark the positions of the shelves on the shelf back and pre-drill.
3 Carefully line up the shelves against the pre-drilled holes and fix into place. Use heavy duty posi-drive screws, so the shelves will be strong enough to take weight.
4 Fit a 1400mm brace to run diagonally down each side and act as a leg for the bottom. This will also stiffen the shelves. To keep with the rustic theme, we used Hex head screws.
5 When the brace is fixed, saw the leg so everything sits flush. Do the same on the other side.
For a natural finish, brush with Danish Oil.
