When it comes to blunt drill bits, there are quite a few carbon wheel sharpeners on the market to take care of the job. We looked at one called a Drill Doctor. It's a bit different because it has a diamond grinder wheel, which the manufacturers say will last 90% longer than the carbon kind.
1 The Drill Doctor is quite simple to use. Place the drill bit into the chuck, select the type of bit, then enter the alignment port and tighten.
2 Place the chuck into the sharpening port while lightly pushing down and rotate. It works like a pencil sharpener. If you have a point splitting bit (that means they are self-centering and fast-cutting) just put it in the point splitting port.
The Drill Doctor will sharpen broken bits, but not broken masonry bits.

Cost The Drill Doctor comes in different sizes to handle different bits, and costs $255-$295. A new disk costs $55, but that will handle between 300-400 sharpenings.
