Most people rely on electricity to keep their home running, so when there's a storm or power cut in the area, they can be left sitting in the dark. That's where the Storm Master comes to the rescue. This innovative company is a leading light in alternate power supplies. Their emergency lighting system automatically switches on when the power goes out.
The Storm Master system involves the installation of several ceiling lights, called infralights. These lights are off when power is available, automatically switching on when power is cut.
The ideal installation spot for Storm Master's infralights is in stairwells where it may be dangerous to walk if the lighting has been cut. Other key areas are the kitchen, hallways, lounge room or bathroom.
When the power is cut without warning, most people have to feel their way through the dark to find a candle, torch or alternative light source. Because the Storm Master is fully automatic, there is no need to fumble through the dark for a switch.
Storm Master is run off a rechargeable power module, usually stored in the garage, linen cupboard or laundry. It is charged via the control unit when the power is cut. A sensor detects the loss of power, automatically switches on the Storm Master system and activates the ceiling lights and any additional power outlets. When the power is restored, the system shuts down and recharges itself.
Lights and power outlets may be the most common uses for Storm Master, but it has plenty of other functions as well. It can have smoke detectors installed, provide electronic door access, run security cameras at your front door, or act as a security alarm.
Because the Storm Master is run off a special power cell, it does not require a generator fuel. This also makes it cheap to operate, with running costs no more than about $5 a year. It is also portable and can be relocated if you move house.
It is easiest to install the Storm Master system during the construction stage of a home, however it can be installed in existing properties. As an optional extra, you can also have a power socket installed so when the electricity is cut off you can finish watching your favourite movie, plug in your alarm clock or charge your mobile phone. |
Total Cost The Storm Master system is Australian made. The total cost of the installation we featured was $980.
