Dominique McAdam has a fascination with Australia’s domestic past, in particular the 1920s-1950s era, and has renovated her Sydney home to accommodate her passion. Her shop "Domestic Delirium", sells off the excesses of her collection.
Dominique likes anything quirky and different. Her entertaining collection includes:
* Retro toys.
* Old-fashioned buttons and cotton reels.
* Old typewriters.
* Coloured bakelite telephones (all working).
* 50’s style Mixmaster and blender (still working).
* Novel china eggcups (50 in total).
* Dozens of "mismatched" dinner plates and teacups from the ’20s and ’30s.
* A collection of hive-shaped honey bowls with bees.
* A feature wall in the kitchen of "Mammy’s" (African-American Southern nannies) with notepads.
* Enamel salt boxes used as door stops.
* Timber panels featuring her collection of antique keys.
* A coat rack which uses old taps as "hooks".
* An old laundry cupboard which has been used as her living-room coffee table.
* Metal salt containers used as door stops.
* An old meat safe used to store CDs.
* An antique candle-maker, made up of 6 columns.
* Curtain rods (as yet unused) from the old Capitol Theatre building.
* Old magazines from the 1920s (displayed on her coffee table).
* A basket of metal "flowers", similar to the plastic stake ones we have today with tea-light candles in them. These were positioned in the garden and used to hold drinks.
* An original 1800s pot belly stove.
Dominique loves her collectibles and agrees that she was probably "born in the wrong era".
