At our very first Our House Expo, we viewed an incredible range of useful appliances. Here we take a look at some of the best on offer.
LAURASTAR: The LauraStar ironing system is a bit like having a professional dry cleaning facility at home. It's like steam ironing but with an empty iron. The steam comes from a powerful generator underneath the ironing board. All you do is fill the tank with tap water and you're ready for an hour of ironing in professional style. You can use it on any fabric, even delicate ones (simply slip the Teflon cover over the iron, which will ensure that you don't mark your clothes). The manufacturers say that you can even spray woollen items such as old jumpers with steam and they'll be rejuvenated. For further information and prices call LauraStar International on 0418 119 679 during business hours or (02) 9541 2216 after hours.
NOTSOSOGGY: The manufacturers call this a "microwave improver tray". It's a tray designed to increase the air circulation underneath pastries, preventing them from becoming overly soggy when heated in microwave ovens. It's ideal for meat pies, sausage rolls, pizzas, garlic bread, fish fillets in batter, pastries, muffins, bagels and more. It's also perfect for defrosting frozen foods, and heats up soups and other dishes evenly. Unlike some microwave items, you can also put it in the dishwasher. The Notsosoggy costs $20, plus $5 postage and handling. It's available by mail order from Lokbear Promotions, PO Box 555, Ocean Grove VIC 3226, fax (03) 9228 2353. Maufactured by Jetstream Plastics, 229 Loftus Avenue, Loftus, ph: (02) 95217256.
THE S'PORT-BACKER BY NADA-CHAIR: According to its makers, the S'port-Backer by Nada-Chair provides the most comfortable, portable sitting support there is. It is the result of 10 years of testing, scientific research and design. As the name suggests, it supports your back while you sit. It has sturdy straps that ensure your spine stays straight for hours. Also ideal for camping, sporting events, boating, fishing, outdoor concerts, etc. One size fits all and they are available for $50 for the first one, then $40 for each additional support (plus $6.95 postage and handling). For further information, ph/fax: (02) 9938 1130. Contact Ergo-Works at PO Box 361, Wahroonga NSW 2076.
RINNAI BBQ: As Shirl puts it, this barbecue is the kind you might buy with your superannuation payout! The Rinnai Outdoor Kitchen series really is the closest thing to a kitchen on wheels. In the Ultima Outdoor Kitchen there's a wok burner, rotisserie, reversible cast iron hotplate, fully sealed storage cabinet with drop-down door, roasting hoods, easy-to-clean double-drip trays, etc, etc, etc. This model is most definitely the ultimate in barbecues. For further information call Rinnai on 1300 366 388, or browse through Rinnai's website at www.rinnai.com.au. You can also e-mail them any enquiries to enquiry@rinnai.com.au.
