Bath Puppets

Your kids will beg to take a bath once you've made them a couple of these fantastic bathtime puppets, and they couldn't be easier to make!

For the fin, cut two identical fin shapes from one of the blue face washers.

Sew a seam down two sides of the fin, leaving the straight edge open. Trim off excess seam allowance.

Cut another corresponding fin shape (but slightly smaller) from a kitchen sponge. Turn the fin inside out and insert the sponge.

Position the second face washer right side up and place the fin about 14cm down from one edge. Fold the washer over so the fin is enclosed and sew a seam. Double-stitch all the seams.

Lay the washer so that the new seam is in the centre. Measure down about 10cm on either side and cut an arc. This will become the nose and mouth of the shark. Trim a little extra off the bottom jaw.

For the mouth, take the pink washer and fold in half. Place it into the mouth of the shark, hold the pink washer in position using pins and cut away the excess pink washer. Turn it all inside out and sew the pink mouth into place. Final touches:

For the final touches, hand-stitch some felt eyes and teeth.

Cut the foam sponge to shape and fit it inside the puppet.

If you would like to make the dog or crocodile puppet, use one of the following shapes instead of the fin shape in steps 1, 2 and 3. You will need four dog-ear shapes and two crocodile shapes.
