| Silk Frame |
| Make a distinctive silk frame for your pictures. |

 |
1 Work out your colours and design before you begin.
2 Stretch the silk on to an adjustable frame, holding it firmly in place with pins.
3 Draw your final design on to tracing paper and outline with a black pen. Place the design underneath the silk so that the design is visible through the silk.
4 Using a vanishing marker (or an ordinary pencil which will do much the same thing), trace the design on to the underside of the stretched silk, holding the tracing paper on the other side with pieces of masking tape at each corner.
5 Apply the metallic gutta to the outline of the design. It is best to have a practice run before applying to the silk. The gutta will block the mesh of the silk, preventing the silk paints from bleeding and merging. Allow the gutta to dry.
6 Following your initial sketch, apply the silk paints, taking care not to splash or go over any lines of gutta. Keep a tissue close by to mop up any excess paint from your brush. Leave to dry.
7 Place the silk between two sheets of clean white paper and iron it in order to fix the paint. (Note: first check the paint manufacturer's instructions before fixing the paint)
8 Cut neatly around the silk design. The gutta border will prevent the silk from fraying. Use spray adhesive to mount the silk onto the cardboard. Finally, place your picture in the centre of the frame.
