1 Aromatic and versatile, herbs can be used for more than cooking and medicines. Blended into soaps, oils and other therapeutic products, they can promote a feeling of wellbeing in those who use them. 2 Honeysuckle Herbals, located at Milton on the south coast of NSW, produce a variety of herb pillows. They come in an array of shapes and sizes and contain a soothing blend of lavender, lemon scented tea-tree and eucalyptus. It is claimed that the herbs relax the mind and relieve medical ailments. If nothing else, they make a room smell fresh.
3 Herb pillows go through five stages in the making. First, the herbs are picked and hung upside down to dry for about three months. This concentrates the oils in the leaf tips. Next, the leaves are stripped and mixed with secret ingredients. They are then collected in a calico sachet. Finally, they are inserted into some stuffing with hypo-allergenic liners and sewn into calico cases. The cases come in a variety of designs that have been screen-printed by local artists.
4 Honeysuckle Herbals also have travel pillows to relieve neck tension on long journeys and shoe freshners to combat foot odour. The range is available by mail order and prices start at $10 for the smaller items.
