Many dolls these days are sophisticated in their design and can be expensive. Our House shows how to make two types of simple wooden dolls that will add attraction to any bedroom shelf.
Stand Up Doll
1 Copy and enlarge the pattern provided in diagram 1, to suit. Trace onto a sheet of cardboard to make templates for all the doll pieces. Trace around these onto the piece of MDF and cut out with a jig saw. Sand all the edges smooth.
2 Glue the feet to the legs so that the doll will now stand upright.
3 Paint on the clothes and facial features. Coat lightly with spray varnish.
4 Glue on the hat, hair and broom (you can make these out of spare craft materials or buy from a craft store). Place on your shelf in a standing position. Swing Leg Doll
5 Follow steps 1 and 2 as above, using templates provided from diagram 2.
6 Drill holes into the base of the body and top of each leg, as marked on the pattern on diagram 2. This is for the string to be threaded through to join the two legs to the body. Carry out steps 3 and 4 as before and then sit on the edge of the shelf with the legs dangling over the edge.
