Fimo Pot
Here's a fun way to decorate a plain terracotta pot, and add a bit of life to your home

When it comes to pot plants, it's not just the plant that can add a bit of life to your home but the pot itself!

  1. Here we use a decorative plasticine-like substance called Fimo to add a bit of spice to those boring pots. It sets hard after baking, and is often used in jewellery making.

  2. Use a knife to slice your pre-rolled pattened Fimo into 3mm thick discs. Use the bottom of a bowl to flatten and expand the diameter of the Fimo slice. Don't try to flatten by hand as poor results will be obtained. Make about 20 discs (one log of pre-rolled Fimo should be enough.

  3. Place all your Fimo discs on a baking tray and place into an oven set at 130 degrees Celsius. Bake for 30 minutes in order for the Fimo to harden.

  4. Take the baking tray out of the oven and let the Fimo discs cool for 5 minutes.

  5. If you are decorating an old terracotta pot, wipe the dust off it with a damp cloth.

  6. Mix the coloured grout according to the instructions on the packet (basically this just means add water).

  7. Use a knife to spread the grout around the rim of the pot. The layer of grout should be about 5mm thick.

  8. Immediately after you have applied the grout, use a comb/fork to create a textured wave pattern into it.

  9. While the grout is still wet, press your coloured Fimo discs into it and allow the grout to dry for two days.

  10. Fimo can also be used to decorate picture frames, etc, in a similar fashion..the possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
