Standard photo albums can take up a lot of room and often get hidden in the bottom of a cupboard and aren't looked at for years. Here is a clever way to store those photos and show them off at the same time.

1
Select six of your best photos. So that they fit on to the sides of the cube, make colour copy enlargements. These need to be large enough to allow you to cut a 150mm x 150mm square out of each photo.

2
Draw two rectangles measuring 150mm x 450mm in the centre of an A2 sheet of paper. This will make up a base pattern for the photo storage cube. Next, add a 30mm-wide overlay strip around certain areas. (See Diagram A.)

3
Glue three photo squares on to each of the two strips. Make sure the tops of the photos are positioned as shown in Diagram A. One strip will consist of the lid, back and base photos. The other will be left, front and right photos. Laminate this A2 sheet. Most printers/photo shops will do this. (Before you laminate, make sure the glue is dry so that it does not show up under the laminate.)

4
Working on a cutting mat, use a craft knife against a steel ruler to cut out the two strips (with overlay included). The gift-box lid then has to be adjusted so that it fits the cube. If your lid has double-folded sides, cut the second layer of the fold off all sides. Then glue one of the sides of the lid to the inside of the back of the box so that it forms a folding lid. Your lid should fit snugly.

5
Take strip one and, using the craft knife as before, score a light line around the photo on the base and lid so that all sections of strip one can be bent easily. It is important that you only score the surface with the blade and do not cut all the way through. Use double-sided tape to attach the strip to the box. Start with the base and then attach the overlay around the base to the front, left and right of the box. Do not stick the back and lid yet. (See Diagram B.)

6
Take strip two and lightly score around the left and right photos. Using double sided tape attach the front, and then the left and right. Stick the overlay to the back of the box. (See Diagram C.) Now attach the back and lid from strip one to the box. Finish by attaching the overlay of the lid photo to the edges of the lid of the box. (See Diagram D.)

7
Place your piece of 150mm x 150mm foam in the bottom of the box. For a neat finish, cut a 150mm x 150mm piece of black card and use double-sided tape to attach this to the foam. (If your box is white inside, then use white card).

8
Store the photos from your albums inside the cube. The cube will fit 20 rolls of 24 photos, placed as in a filing cabinet position. When you get bored with looking at the facing photo of the cube, it can be simply turned to a new position and a new picture can be shown off.
