Yes, it's the return of that '70s icon, the beanbag! We show you how to make a cheap, fun, fantastic beanbag with a fish theme. It'll soothe the soul and entertain the kids at the same time.
Designed by Myra Jess, this fantastic fish beanbag can be made in a variety of colours and materials. It will also end up costing you less than a chain-store model, so you get a unique look at a down-to-earth price.
The fish beanbag, full of colourful personality, will become your child's best friend. However, please take note of the warnings below.
TWO VERY IMPORTANT WARNINGS:
a) The beans for the bag are dangerous for small children as they can easily be swallowed or inhaled and cause an obstruction.
b) All the corduroy fabric should be prewashed to avoid shrinkage later.
1 Cut out all the fish parts: main body, head, tail, fin, side fin, eyes and lips (see main diagram).
2 Attach the eyes to the head.
3 Sew all the way around the tail, leaving the edge open for stuffing. Repeat this for the dorsal and side fins.
4 Stuff the fins with polyester toy filler before sewing up the openings.
5 Attach the fins and head to the body.
6 Attach a zip to the underside.
7 Turn the whole bag inside out through the zipper. Fill the bag up until you are satisfied with the amount. For safety one can buy a lockable zip, or insert a couple of stitches to keep kids' prying fingers out! 8 The lips are turned inside out for a smooth lipline. You can be a bit more heavy-handed with stuffing for the lips, to give a more trendy look, but remember not to overfill the main body.
