You know Christmas is fast approaching when stores start to stack the shelves with tinsel and baubles. With so many decorations to choose from it can be hard to decide what to buy and how to decorate your house. Tara makes things a little easier with some great tips as she decorates two rooms for in time for Christmas.
If you choose your decorations carefully and creatively they can be an investment that will last for years. So, when you've eaten your last piece of fruitcake for the season, all you need to do is pack up your decorations and store them safely.
Instead of buying your tinsel here and wrapping paper there, why not put aside an hour or two to visit a Christmas shop with everything you need under the one roof. This will save time in the long run and probably a little money too.
The first shop Tara visited for her festive supplies was the Christmas Cave. This is more than a store it's a warehouse, with four rooms full of Christmas goodies. The Christmas cave has something for every taste and budget, including a six foot singing and dancing Santa. This store is currently located in Sydney, but plans to open in Melbourne and Brisbane next year.
Tara used decorations from the Christmas Cave to make over the lounge. This cost just $200 and includes a 7.5ft tree. To decorate, Tara used hand-made ornaments for a traditional theme. These include Santa heads, angels, miniature chairs, pincushions, musical instruments and bows.
Fairy lights add life to the picture rail, while the mantle is trimmed with burgundy ribbons and lengths of pearls. And for the finishing touch, a basket of pearls, ribbons and baubles placed next to the fireplace.
Next, Tara paid a visit to Lincraft. They have opened The Christmas Section, which is dedicated to modern decorations made from wire, twigs and metallic materials. Lincraft also sells a wide range of fabrics, ribbons and craft supplies to mix and match with your decorations.
Tara used Lincraft decorations to make over the dining room. The room cost about $260 and includes a tree from the Christmas Cave. The tree is decorated with silver, blue and purple glittered baubles, setting the mood for a modern Christmas. She's also using silver ribbon bows, silver tinsel and transparent ribbon.
The table is decorated with a metallic "Lame" blue fabric runner and "Make Believe" lavender napkins. Beaded napkin rings add a touch of Christmas cheer. Bombonniere boxes can be used to for small gifts and left beside each guest's plate. Silver name card holders add a personal touch and complement the silver star garlands decorating each plate.
The centrepiece is a large glass vase with metallic fabric inside. Filled with bunches of poinsettia, it adds a splash of colour. We added some blue and gold glasses from Andersons Accents to complete the festive table.
