1
Start by cutting the seat out to 290mm long. Then drill 9mm diameter holes in the corners, 15mm in from each side. Then, on one side, drill two more 9mm holes, 130mm from each corner and 15mm in from the edge. (Refer to diagram.)

2
Cut 11 rails at 290mm out of the 3.6m length of 31mm x 31mm maple or pine. Then drill 9mm holes, placing them 15mm in from each end. Do this on all 11 rails.

3
In one of these rails (which will be used for the front), drill two extra 9mm holes, 130mm in from each end, to line up with the holes drilled on the seat. You should now have one rail with four holes and 10 others with only two.

4
Then, from the high-pressure hose, cut six 31mm and two 150mm lengths.

5
First, to make sure everything is lined up and to see the final product, put the swing together before threading the rope. Start by laying two rails down opposite sides of the seat. Then put one rail across the back of the seat so that it sits on the other rail ends. At the other end, place two of the 31mm lengths of hose. Then start again with the two rails down the side. Now one end of them will be sitting on the hose and the other on the end of the back rail. Repeat the process (remembering the hose pieces where there isn't any rail support) until you only have the rail with four holes left.

6
Grab one of the 6m lengths of rope and thread it through the bottom holes at the back of the seat, up through the holes in the rails and hose until both ends are even. The back is now complete.

7
With the other piece of rope, thread it down through the rails on one side of the front and up through the centre holes. Then thread the rope through one 150mm length of hose and into the centre hole of the last rail. Thread the rope through the other centre hole and down through the hose and seat again. Finish it off by threading the rope up through the final set of rail holes, even the rope, and it's ready to hang.

8
Find a strong, safe support with lots of room and hang the swing by using a bowline knot. (See Diagram 2.)
