Here is a gooey and fun recipe that will keep the kids entertained, as Our House gives you the slime treatment. No, it's not for eating, but for squishing and squashing between those tiny fingers. We also include again last year's popular details on how to make your own modelling dough.

Slime

1
Combine a cup of PVA glue, a cup of water and 3-4 capfuls of green food colouring in a mixing bowl. Mix all three ingredients thoroughly.

2
Place 4 teaspoons of borax and 1/2 cup of hot water into an empty jar. Screw on the lid and shake until the borax dissolves.

3
Add the borax mixture to the glue mixture. You will obtain very thick clumps of slime where the two mix. The glue contains polyvinyl acetate which reacts with the borax. Working with clean hands, mix and knead the concoction for about five to 10 minutes until you get a gooey consistency. For a slimier texture, add a bit more water and knead it in.

If the slime gets stuck on any fabric, just soak it in water. In time the slime should disappear. It's best to let the kids play with the stuff on a smooth flat surface, such as a table, bench top, etc.

Modelling Dough

4
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and stir over a medium heat until the mixture hardens. It will take three to five minutes. The result is a cheap, safe and environmentally-friendly modelling dough for kids. The salt acts as a preservative and should prevent your little ones from eating it. Just make sure you let the dough cool down before using.

Note Although these substances are not considered harmful, you should treat all chemicals with care and wash your hands after handling. Don't let your children taste or eat any of the materials and do not pour any of these mixtures down the sink. It is best to let your kids handle the slime or dough under adult supervision (if only to protect your carpets, furniture, etc).
