| J&J Woodcraft |
| Centuries ago groups of craftsmen would camp out in the forest and build all sorts of things from the timber around them. Our House visited one Sydney man who is keeping the tradition alive. |

By trade Jonas Kirk is a bricklayer, but his passion is timber. He has created "the past" in his suburban backyard, using tools and techniques that would have been employed in the old days.
1 Jonas is an avid tool collector. All his are traditional tools and they are mostly antiques. They include a shave horse, which is used to clean up split logs, an old-fashioned bench drill that requires quite a bit of elbow grease, and a large grindstone that is used for sharpening tools. He also has a pole lathe and a foot-powered jigsaw he built himself, based on an 1816 design.
2 Janet Kirk is equally as enthusiastic about timber but prefers the art of wood-burning, otherwise known as poker-working. Janet and Jonas sell most of the things they make, and if you are interested in learning more you can catch up with them at the Timber and Working with Wood shows right around the country.
