1 Now 85 years of age, Elvin Harvey has been working with since he was a boy. Elvin learnt his trade through his father, also a gifted furniture maker and artist.
2 Members of the British royal family have acquired a number of pieces, including a beautiful set of tables crafted for the Queen Mother. Elvin was commissioned by a former Queensland premier, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, to make a clock as a wedding present for Charles and Diana.
3 Elvin has also been commissioned to make pieces for Parliament House, including a 10-seat extension table and sideboard. He has designed and crafted numerous mirrors, side tables, beds and dressing tables. Together with his brother, Elvin completed work commenced by his father in the chapel of the Church of England Grammar School in Brisbane.
4 For Elvin, the reward is in seeing the pleasure that people derive from his work. In his own words, "When people who buy your work are made happy by fine quality and show a real appreciation for what you do, then life is worth living. It has provided me with a reason for living."
