Steven Clegg is a Brisbane-based horticulturist and botanical designer who runs his business of eight years, Gardenesque, with a difference. Steven has created a business that inspires himself and other people to use plants to their best effect. Some of the slightly offbeat products that he enjoys working with include dried grasses, rustic ornamentation, aged cast iron urns, old farm tools and even barbed wire. Onions, pumpkins and other vegetables are often featured.
Steven believes that the garden is an extension of the home, it's owners and an important part of entertaining especially for the Australian lifestyle. When designing a garden Steven discusses with his clients their likes and dislikes and will also assess the architecture and features of the existing home and garden.
In his designs he combines simplicity and complexity via the strategies of mass planting, water features, shaping, changing levels, viewpoints and the use of interchanging pathways. He likes using strong shapes and structures and contrasts formal with offbeat and whacky. In such designs, Steven encourages the garden to be a highly visual addition to the home, to be used for a variety of activities and as a talking point for occupants and guests alike.
Gardenesque incorporates garden landscaping, maintenance and design implementation for courtyards, verandahs and inner city spaces.
