|
1 Christopher Jones is a self-taught artist and craftsman who completed his first mosaic work in Perth in 1990. In 1992 Chris lived in Barcelona, Spain, for a year and found himself heavily influenced by the Spanish architect and designer, Antonio Gaudi.
2 He especially liked the stucco facades in which Gaudi incorporated broken tiles and shards of glass. Aboriginal art also influences Chris's work.
3 Since 1992, he has completed numerous private and public mosaic works throughout Australia, New Zealand and the USA. He has also displayed his works in solo and dual exhibitions in Australia and New Zealand.
4 Chris makes a variety of unusual and colourful pieces, including those for boxes, trunks, mirrors, floors in kitchens and bathrooms, shop frontages and even street planter boxes, to name but a few.
5 His pieces are sold in art houses, privately and at markets. Most of his works take from between three hours to three days to make, depending on complexity. He tends to use recycled materials such as glass, stained glass, tiles and ceramics. |
Cost
Prices vary and start at around $80 for mirrors and more for other pieces of work. Generally Chris’s mosaic work costs around three times that of normal tiling.
