1
If you are in the process of renovating or building your home, here is a way to stand out from the crowd. It is now possible to carve your house name, number or anything you like into the surface of house bricks and pavers. It doesn't matter whether they are old or new, just as long as they are clean.

2
Pioneer, a Melbourne-based company, uses a computer-controlled abrasion blasting system. First, a design is generated on the computer. For the most part the company will work with you on the type, size and so on. You can choose to supply artwork instead.

3
There is no limit to the size of the engraving of your design, even up to the size of the side of a building. However, only one brick or paver is engraved at a time.

4
Once your image is scanned into the computer, it is printed out on 3mm-thick rubber. At the same time, matching perforations are cut into the surface. The design is picked out with a blade, forming a rubber stencil.

5
This has a tacky side that sticks to your brick. The surface is then sandblasted, carving out the design to a depth of about 3mm. Finally, a black glaze is sprayed over the top. This glaze will withstand normal foot traffic and vehicles, and the manufacturers say it should last up to 10 years.

More Info
Cost: Around $30 per brick or paver. This includes the actual engraved brick, but transportation to Pioneer's plant in Melbourne, where the Signature bricks are created, is extra.
